Learning a new instrument is always a challenge. My brain knows which notes it wants to hear, but my fingers don't always go to those strings. The F and C strings on the harp are labeled by color (C's are red, F's are blue) and for some reason my brain likes to mix those up at the most inconvenient times. Frustrating.
I watch the great harpers play, like Kim Robertson, and I wonder, "how will I ever get that good?" Well, I know the answer is "practice and determination," but that is more difficult to do than it is to say. Right now I am on a bit of a practicing binge. This is because Two Plucky Sisters has a performance coming up for Richmond Music Study Club on September 26th. I know I will work like crazy until that date, but once the motivation is gone can I keep working on a daily basis to improve my skills? Time will tell. I am hoping my dreams of taking my harp to MarsCon Williamsburg in January will motivate me to practice!
Will I show "determined courage" as I approach the difficulties of practice? Let's see!
